South Dakota football coach Bob Nielson is pleased to announce two new student-athletes to this year’s recruiting class. Julius Ellens and Rulian Stewart will join 19 other signees from the early signing period in the 2024 class.
“Julius and Rulian are great additions to our 2024 class”, said Nielson. “We look forward to having them join our team.”
Julius Ellens played both running back and wide receiver at Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago). He was a first team all-state election as well as the offensive player of the year in his conference. He was a two-time all-conference performer and a Academic All-State award winner as well. He helped lead the Hilltoppers to an 11-2 record and a spot in the state semifinals. Ellens was a four-year starter and a captain for both the football and track teams at GWHS. In total, Ellens had 224 carries for 1,675 yards and 52 receptions for 480 yards with 38 total touchdowns. His parents are Martin and Carey Sue Ellens and he plans to major at business at USD.
Rulian Stewart is a defensive back who hails from Accokeek, Maryland. Stewart was a three-year starter at Georgetown Preparatory School where he was a first-team all-conferece defensive back. He helped lead his team to two conference titles in his time with the Hoyas. A multi-sport athlete, Stewart is a member of the football, track and basketball teams at Georgetown Prep. In total, Stewart secured 74 tackles, broke up 12 passes, and added an interception for the Hoyas. His parents are Rulian Sr. and Cassandra Stewart, and he plans to major in computer science at USD.
The addition of Ellens and Stewart bring the total number of signees from the 2024 recruiting class to 21. The Coyotes will next take the field at the annual spring scrimmage in April. Stay tuned to GoYotes.com for more information on that event.
