(KXLG – Watertown, SD) Craft beer fans will converge on Downtown Watertown on Saturday, August 10, for the first Watertown Craft Brew Fest.
The event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. in the public parking lot behind the Watertown Brewing Company at 113 East Kemp Ave.
Participants can purchase a wristband and sample glass for $30 and try craft beers from five South Dakota breweries: the Watertown Brewing Company and Dempsey’s Brewery Pub and Restaurant, both of Watertown, XiX (Nineteen) Brewing of Vermillion, Ben’s Brewing Co. of Yankton and Covert Artisan Ales and Cellars of Sioux Falls.
XiX Brewing is owned by Watertown natives Ed Gerrish and Katey Ulrich.
Michael Heuer of Watertown Brewing said the event will also feature members of the local craft beer club, Fellowship of the Brew.
Heuer said he decided to have a local brew fest after the 605 Summer Classic, scheduled for last month, was canceled for this year. The 605 Summer Classic, the state’s premier craft brew fest, has been held for the past 15 years.
He said many craft breweries in the area already had their schedules full and couldn’t attend the Watertown event, but he hopes to grow the Watertown Craft Brew Fest in the future.
In addition to a selection of craft brews, the event will also feature food and games.
