Zebra mussels have been found in another northeast South Dakota lake. According to the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks Department the invasive aquatic species has now been found in Big Stone Lake, which borders Minnesota. The mussels were found on a private dock as it was being removed from the water for the winter season. Zebra mussels are almost impossible to remove from a body of water once they get in and disrupt local ecosystems. Game Fish and Parks reminds all boaters, anglers hunters and everyone enjoying South Dakota lakes to clean, drain and dry their boat every time they exit a body of water to help prevent the spread.
