The Brown County Commission at its regular meeting Tuesday approved a bid of $2.52 million to build a new cell at the Brown County Landfill. That is slightly more than the expected cost of $2.5 million. The winning bid came from Midland Contracting of Volga. The date for the construction on the new cellt o start has not yet been determined. The lowest bid of $1.75 million from Foothills Contracting out of Webster was retracted because of an error. Brown County landfill manager Mike Scott says a grant has been procured for the project and will cover 18.2 percent of the cost.
