(KXLG – Watertown, SD) The Codington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two separate deaths where individuals died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds that occurred on or about March 2, 2025. The incidents, while both involving self-inflicted gunshot wounds, are determined to be unrelated, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.
The first investigation began in the early morning hours in rural Watertown. Deputies responded to a location where a 20-year-old male was found to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Despite life-saving measures attempted at the scene, the male was pronounced deceased.
Less than twelve hours later, deputies were dispatched to a second death investigation in rural Henry. Authorities were alerted to an abandoned vehicle that had been present for several days. A subsequent search led to the discovery of a 60-year-old male deceased in a nearby tree grove, also having died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Codington County Sheriff’s Office stated that both incidents remain under investigation. However, authorities have confirmed that the two deaths are not connected.
The names of the deceased individuals are being withheld at this time pending notification of their families.
