Due to federal budget cuts being made by the Trump administration, Feeding South Dakota is expected to ask lawmakers to help makeup some of that lost funding. According to Keloland News, Feeding South Dakota is asking lawmakers to consider appropriating $3 million for the organization in the state’s 2026 budget. Currently, Feeding South Dakota does not receive any state funding for its operation. According to Feeding South Dakota’s web site, the program in 2024 provided 11.7 million meals accross the state. That includes serving over 164,699 in its backpack program aimed at feeding kids, and helping to feed 12,772 families a month.
