First time Republican candidate Spencer Sommers reflects on primary election night victory

Co-op Architecture partner Spencer Sommers was one of two Republican candidates to claim victory following Tuesday’s South Dakota primary election.

Sommers received the largest share of votes in the race with 32 percent. Behind him was Tim Hanigan at 29 percent, Al Novstrop with 23 percent and Kaleb Weis with 16 percent.

Sommers called the victory humbling…

Sommers was quick to thank incumbent Al Novstrop for his decades of service to Aberdeen and northeast South Dakota in the state legislature following the win…

While there was no official candidates running together, groupings emerged in this and the local state senate race between Sommers and fellow candidates Tim Hanigan and Katie Washnok.

Sommers thanked Washnok and Hanigan for their support…

Sommers now turns his focus to the general election where two of three candidates will win the house seats in Pierre…
