West river judge John Fitzgerald has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for South Dakota Attorney General. Fitzgerald has served 432 years as a South Dakota State’s Attorney for Butte and Lawrence counties, and according to a release about his candidacy is the longest-serving state’s attorney in South Dakota history. In November of 2022 he was elected as a fourth circuit court judge serving eight northwestern South Dakota counties. He is the third candidate to announced their plans to run for the GOP AG nomination along with McPherson County State’s Attorney Austin Hoffman and former state lawmaker Lance Rusell. The GOP nomination is named by party delegates at the GOP state convention this June 25th through the 27th.
