Gov. Rhoden joins Governor’s Coalition for Energy Security

Today, Governor Rhoden announced he joined the Governors’ Coalition for Energy Security (the Coalition).

“I am a firm believer in an all-of-the-above energy approach. South Dakotans deserve reliable, affordable energy and the freedom to choose what power source works best for their homes and businesses,” said Governor Larry Rhoden. “Through this Coalition, we will deliver common sense energy policies that strengthen our economy and protect consumer choice.”

Former Governor Kristi Noem, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, former New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, and several other Governors and Premiers founded the Coalition to help Americans tackle the high costs of energy and accelerating energy cost inflation.

South Dakota is a national leader in renewable energy production. In fact, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, 81% of South Dakota’s electricity generation comes from renewable sources, primarily wind and hydropower.

The Coalition will ensure continued energy choice, minimize permitting and other regulatory barriers, limit expensive energy mandates, focus on affordability and reliability of energy infrastructure, and coordinate to positively manage energy resources and the environment.

Governor Rhoden is joined in the Coalition membership by Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon, Arkansas Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves, New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt, and Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, Premier Danielle Smith of Alberta, Premier Scott Moe of Saskatchewan, and Premier Doug Ford of Ontario.
