Incumbent District 3 State Senator Carl Perry is asking the voters to send him back to Pierre for his second term as its state senator and fifth overall term in the state legislature.
Perry first ran in the 2019-2020 cycle and served three terms in the state house before jumping over to the state senate. He is seeking the GOP nomination once again, taking on challenger Katie Washnok.
Perry beat Washnok last primary for state senator by 112 votes.

A divide has become clear in the GOP primary. According to Northern State Political Science professor Jon Schaff, one side includes candidates considered more focused on economic and business issues. On the other side are what he calls the “super-MAGA”, more aligned with president Donald Trump and the America First agenda.
