Local elected officials respond to Trump Administration’s arrest of Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro

Local elected officials have responded to the Trump administration’s operation in Venezuela which led to the arrest of the country’s president Nicholas Maduro on alleged drug trafficking charges. South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden posted to social media, he was grateful for President Trump’s strong, decisive leadership.

Full statement:

“Oftentimes, the best work is done quietly, behind the scenes, and the effort becomes obvious only after the result has been achieved. President Trump achieved that in Venezuela. I’m grateful for his strong, decisive leadership.” – Gov. Larry Rhoden

Attorney General Marty Jackley said he commended the president and the armed forces on the operation, calling it a decisive and courageous action. Maduro and his wife were taken into custody by the United States and had their first court hearing Monday in New York City. They both plead not guilty to the charges they face.

Full statement:

“I commend President Donald J. Trump and the United States Armed Forces for their decisive and courageous action in capturing Nicolas Maduro and his wife. This historic operation, carried out in coordination with U.S. law enforcement, marks a significant step in the fight against narco-terrorism and sends a clear message that the United States will not tolerate the trafficking of illicit drugs that threaten the safety and well-being of our citizens. I stand firmly behind the administration’s continued efforts to protect our nation from the scourge of illicit drugs. Together, we will work to keep our communities safe and free from the devastating impact of drug trafficking.” – AG Marty Jackley
