FEMA announced that federal disaster assistance is available to members of the Oglala Sioux Tribe to supplement recovery efforts in the areas affected by the severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding from June 2-4, 2026.
The President’s action makes federal funding available to affected individuals and families of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and families recover from the effects of the disaster.
Tribal members who sustained losses or damage on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation should document their damage, keep any receipts for repairs, and file a claim with their insurance provider. Information on how individuals may apply for federal disaster assistance will be announced when it is available.
The Oglala Sioux Tribe is also eligible to receive federal funding on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding.
Edwin J. Martin has been named the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected areas.
