Police in Watertown conduct compliance checks at medical marijuana locations

(KWAT – Watertown, SD)–Watertown police conducted compliance checks at eight vape and smoke shops in the city late last month to ensure businesses were not selling certain illegal THC and Delta products.

One of those eight businesses, Smokes R Us, sold Delta 8 gummies to an underage buyer. That employee received a citation for selling to someone under the age of 21.

Following the compliance checks, and in response to additional complaints, Watertown police and the Codington County Sheriff’s Department executed two search warrants Wednesday at vape and smoke shops in southeast Watertown.

Over 2,000 illegal items were seized, along with illegal prescription medications.

Under South Dakota law, Delta 8, Delta 10, THCP, THCO, and HHC are illegal to sell.

Police say it remains an active investigation.
