(Brookings Radio – Brookings, SD) Brookings Police are investigating reported player-on-player violence at a Brookings High School soccer match last week.
During a Friday (August 14) match, a Brookings player was shoved out of bounds and to the ground by a Rapid City Central player who proceeded to kick and punch the Brookings player repeatedly.
Another Brookings player defended his teammate with punches of his own, resulting in a 10-minute game delay just before halftime.
A coach escorted away the Rapid City player who did not return to play in the match.
In an email statement, Brookings Police Chief Michael Drake said, “The City of Brookings Police Department was made aware of a possible assault that occurred during the boys soccer game at the complex. We are currently investigating this matter.”
