Redfield woman killed in Hand county accident

Three people were injured, one fatally, in a multi-vehicle crash six miles east of Highmore, SD Wednesday morning.

The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.

Preliminary crash information indicates three motorcycles were traveling westbound on US Highway 14 near 346th Avenue. The driver of a 2008 Chevrolet K1500 was traveling eastbound crossed the center line and began driving on the wrong side of the road. The first motorcyclist was able to avoid the Chevrolet. The second motorcyclist collided head-on with the Chevrolet, and the third motorcyclist avoided a collision by riding into the ditch where she lost control and became separated from her motorcycle.

The first motorcyclist was uninjured. The second sustained fatal injuries, and the third sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.

The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
