South Dakota Representative Dusty Johnson has announced he will not seek re-election to the US House of Representatives and instead will seek to be the next Governor of South Dakota. Johnson has an event scheduled for noon today in Sioux Falls to officially announce his candidacy, but Keloland News reports Johnson confirmed his plans to run Monday. Johnson has been South Dakota’s loan representative in congress since 2016. Along with serving in congress, the 48-year-old has also served on the state Public Utilities Commission and as chief of staff under former Governor Dennis Daugaard. Johnson is the third person to officially announce his candidacy for the GOP nomination for Governor. The other two include Dell Rapids law maker Jon Hansen and Aberdeen businessman Toby Doeden.
