Timberwolves resign guard Bones Hyland to a one-year veteran minimum deal

The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced the team has re-signed guard Bones Hyland. Per team policy, the terms of the agreement were not released.

Hyland, 25, wrapped up his fifth NBA season and first full season with the Timberwolves, appearing in a career-high 71 games (three starts), averaging 8.5 points on a career-best 45.3% shooting, including 38.8% from three, 1.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 16.6 minutes per game. Hyland tallied six 20+ point games this season, all off the bench and recorded 5+ assists in 14 games this season, the most in any season of his career. One of the highlights of his season came on Jan. 13 in Milwaukee when he finished with a season-high 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including a season-best 5-of-7 from deep and five assists in 21:03 minutes off the bench. With his five assists and zero turnovers to go along with his 23 points on Jan. 13, Hyland became the third player in Timberwolves history to have 20+ points, 5+ assists and 0 turnovers off the bench all-time and the first one to do so on the road. He joined Jeff Teague (Dec. 11, 2019 vs. Utah) and Wally Szczerbiak (Feb. 17, 2005 vs. Cleveland) as the only Wolves players to record such a game.

For his career, the 6-2 guard has appeared in 257 regular season games (13 starts) with the Denver Nuggets, LA Clippers and Timberwolves, averaging 9.2 points on 41.1% shooting, including 37.0% from deep, 2.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 16.9 minutes per game. He earned All-Rookie Second Team honors in 2021-22 with the Nuggets after averaging 10.1 points on 40.3% shooting, 2.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 19.0 minutes per game.

The Wilmington, Del. native, has seen action in 23 postseason matchups during four trips to the playoffs. He holds playoff career averages of 6.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 12.9 minutes per game.

Hyland was selected by the Nuggets with the 26th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
