(Timberwolves.com) The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced the team has signed forward Jaden McDaniels to a contract extension. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released.
One of the elite perimeter defenders in the league, McDaniels, 26, enters his seventh season in the NBA, playing all previous six years with Minnesota, appearing in 469 games (363 starts), holding career averages of 11.1 points on 48.9% shooting, 4.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 29.1 minutes per game. Last season, McDaniels appeared in 73 games (all starts), averaging a career-high 14.8 points on 51.5% shooting, including a career-best 41.2% from three and a career-high 83.5% from the foul line, 4.2 rebounds and a career-high 2.7 assists in 31.7 minutes per game.
Last season, he tallied multiple steals and multiple blocks in nine games, the third most of any Western Conference player (Victor Wembanyama – 11, Alperen Sengun – 10). McDaniels increased his three-point percentage from 33.0% during the 2024-25 season to 41.2% last season, the fourth-largest improvement (+8.2) in the NBA (min. 150 attempts each season) and the third-largest improvement by a Timberwolves player all-time. In Minnesota’s 124-121 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Feb. 24, he finished with 29 points on 12-of-16 shooting, including 5-of-6 from three, six rebounds, three steals and a career-high-tying five blocks, becoming the first player in NBA history to record 25+points on 75.0%+ shooting while making 5+ threes and collecting 3+ steals and 5+ blocks.
The Federal Way, Wash. native has appeared in 49 career playoff games (43 starts) for the Wolves, the second-most in franchise history. He holds career playoff averages of 13.6 points on 49.1% shooting, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 32.0 minutes per game.
In Game 6 of the First Round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs on April 30, McDaniels led the way to close out the Denver Nuggets, finishing with a game-high and career-high (regular season or postseason) 32 points on 13-of-25 shooting, 10 rebounds, three assists, a game-high-tying two steals and zero turnovers, marking his first 30+ point/10+ rebound playoff game of his career. McDaniels became the second player in franchise playoff history to record 30+ points/10+ rebounds/2+ steals, joining Kevin Garnett, who did so five times. He was the first player to record 30+ points/10+ rebounds/2+ steals and 0 turnovers in an NBA Playoff game since Jayson Tatum did so on May 14, 2023 vs. Philadelphia and first Western Conference player to do so since Kobe Bryant on June 2, 2002 at Sacramento.
The Wolves originally acquired McDaniels’ draft rights as the 28th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft from the Los Angeles Lakers.
