Two inmates sentenced to additional prison times for assaults on officers

Two inmates in the South Dakota Department of Corrections have been sentenced to additional prison time. According to the South Dakota Attorney General’s office, Lester M. Monroe and Kyle L. Jones were sentenced Friday after being found guilty of assaulting two correctional officers on August 24^th 2023 in the D Unit of the Jameson Annex of the South Dakota State penitentiary in Sioux Falls. Monroe was sentenced to an additional 35 years in prison on attempted first-degree murder of law enforcement and aggravated assault of a DOC employee. Jones was sentenced to an additional 50 years for the same charges.
