Vikings talk about the decision to name Kyler Murray starter

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell recently named Kyler Murray the team’s starting quarterback heading into the 2026 NFL season.

Murray is 29 years old, a former first overall pick out of Oklahoma and spent the first six years of his career with the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals released him at the end of the past NFL season and he agreed to a one-year free agent deal with Minnesota.

Murray was named starter over J.J. McCarthy who entered into this offseason in a battle for the starting job. McCarthty is a former first round by by Minnesota and started 10 games for Minnesota last year with mixed results.
