Watertown police say woman dies after driving vehicle into a pond

(KWAT – Watertown, SD) Watertown police say a woman who drove a vehicle into a pond has died from her injuries.

The police department released updated information today on Monday’s incident that occurred just before 10 a.m. in the 200-block of Challenger Way Southeast.

First responders arrived to find a vehicle had gone into a pond and became fully-submerged.

It took crews nearly an hour to get to the victim, extricate her from the vehicle , and get her to Prairie Lakes Hospital via ambulance.

Police said today the driver, 41 year-old Brianna Mahaffy of Watertown, passed away Monday night from her injuries.

Police did not cite the reason for the vehicle leaving the roadway and veering into the pond, and they say no additional updates are anticipated unless new information becomes available.
