Watertown Shamrocks kick out fans for racist remarks towards player

(KWAT – Watertown, SD) The Watertown Shamrocks took swift, decisive action over the weekend after Prairie Lakes Ice Arena staff were made aware of a group of fans making inappropriate and racial remarks toward a member of the visiting team who’s from South Korea.

The Shamrocks say those fans were removed and, “have been banned from our facilities.”

They went on to say they are, “deeply frustrated with the actions from these fans, and do not, in any way, condone this type of behavior.”

The North Iowa Bulls player who was the target of the racial comments is Sangeyob Kim. In a Facebook post, the Shamrocks apologized to the Bulls and Kim, saying, “hockey is for everyone.”

The Shamrocks are in their inaugural season as a member of the North American Hockey League.
