South Dakota Senator and Senate Majority Leader John Thune has released a statement regarding airstrikes ordered by President Donald Trump on Iranian-backed Houthi Rebels in Yemen who are currently attacking commercial shipping in the Red Sea. The Houthi’s claim they are attacking these vessels due to the ongoing war Israel is conducting against Hamas in the Gaza strip.
The strike has killed 31 people including women and children according to Houthi backed health ministry. In the statement Senator Thune applauded President Trump for taking what he called a long overdue decisive action. He went on to say this shows the world attacking the United States and our allies will not be tolerated.
“Today’s air strikes in Yemen sent a clear and unambiguous message to our adversaries around the world: attacking the United States and our allies will not be tolerated,” said Thune. “I applaud President Trump for taking this long overdue decisive action the American people deserve and expect to keep American servicemembers, maritime shipping, and our allies safe from Houthi terrorists. Bad actors around the globe must understand there are consequences for their actions, and we now have a president who’s willing to hold them accountable.”
