22nd inmate dies in DOC custody in 2025

Another inmate has died under Department of Corrections custody. According to the DOC 46-year-old Timothy Tyree was found unresponsive in his cell Monday at the Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield. He was rushed to a local hospital where he would later die. He was serving a sentence for possession of a controlled substance out of Minnehaha County. The cause of death is currently under investigation, but Tyree is the4 22^nd inmate to pass away under DOC custody in 2025. An autopsy has been ordered as it is believed Tyree died due to a drug overdose.
