Aberdeen businessman Toby Doeden files paperwork to create campaign for Governor

Aberdeen businessman Toby Doeden has filed organizing paperwork with the Secretary of State’s office to create a campaign seeking to be Governor of South Dakota.

Doeden himself has not confirmed plans to run for office, but will be giving a speech about his vision for the future of South Dakota this Thursday.

According to paperwork filed with the Secretary of State’s office, “Tobey Doeden for South Dakota” filed paperwork declaring his intent to run for Governor on May 22nd.

Doeden has made a recent foray into South Dakota politics, exploring a run to primary Representative Dusty Johnson in 2024 and creating a Political Action “Committee Dakota First Action”.

So far, Speaker of the South Dakota House Jon Hansen is the only candidate to officially announce his candidacy for Governor. It is expected the field will grow with people like Attorney General Marty Jackley, Representative Dusty Johnson, and current Governor Larry Rhoden all possibly seeking the GOP nomination.
