North Dakota man sentenced to 25 years for providing drugs in Aberdeen that led to an overdose death

A North Dakota man has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison, five years of supervised release, forfeit firearms, pay a $1,000 fine and $100 to the federal crime victims for providing drugs that lead to the death of an Aberdeen victim. According to the US Attorney for South Dakota, 29-year-old Carlin Mellette of Mandan North Dakota provided drugs at a house party in the early morning hours of February 26th 2023. When the victim and friends were socializing, Mellette provided pills ingested by a co-defendant and the victim who ingested half the pill resulting in an overdose and death of the victim. Aberdeen Police pursued Mellette in excess of 100 miles per hour. After getting his vehicle struck in a snowbank, police found 99 grams of methamphetamine, additional fentanyl pills, drug ledgers, scales and other drug paraphernalia.
