The Aberdeen School board at its regular meeting Monday approved a resolution disapproving of the proposed legislation that would create so called “education savings accounts” for families who choose private or home schooling. The bill as it is currently written would earmark $4 million for these accounts. According to the statement approved by the school board, education savings accounts or EASs is simply a school voucher program just presented with a different name. The board also says in the statement, the state has already proposed cuts this coming session due to less than expected tax revenue. Moving $4 million according to the school board would only make those budget cuts worse.
