Update: According to the Aberdeen Police Department officers received a call from an individual at approximately 1:01 p.m. Friday claiming to be armed with multiple firearms walking towards Aberdeen Central high school.
Law enforcement claims the suspect had intent to harm students and staff. Because of this threat public and private schools in Aberdeen were placed in lockdown status.
A second individual claimed they observed an individual walking towards ACHS with a firearm. Officers could not locate said suspect and determined the call with the threat came from a spoofed number. During the investigation law enforcement was made aware of a similar swatting episode in Fargo North Dakota.
Update: Roncalli has ended its soft lockdown as of 2:30 p.m.
Aberdeen Public schools and Aberdeen Catholic schools were placed into lockdown status Friday afternoon.
According to a recorded message from Aberdeen Central Principal Jason Uttermark “There is an active situation today in the neighborhood around Central High school.”
law enforcement is on the scene to try and assist in the situation. Little further details were released and more information is expected to he released at a later time.
Aberdeen Catholic Schools were placed on a soft lockdown status.
