HB 1082 made it out of the state Senate Monday and is on its way to Governor Larry Rhoden’s desk. HB1082 would reimburse school districts to cover students already on the free and reduced lunch program. The bill was brought to the senate floor via a smoke out maneuver after it was tabled in the Senate Appropriations committee. the bill is expected to cost the state just over $500,000 annually out of the state’s general fund and impact approximately 10,000 students across South Dakota each year.
