The Lincoln County Sheriff’s department reports a Lincoln county woman was the victim of a cell phone scam that resulted in a $2,000 loss. According to authorities, the scammers called the victim claiming to be a deputy or captain with local law enforcement. The scammers claimed the victim had missed jury duty and had two outstanding warrants for her arrest. The scammers then demanded $2,000 to make the warrants go away and that she should pay in cryptocurrency. Last Wednesday was national scam alert day. Residents are reminded to avoid being pressured into makin g a quick decision, be cautious if someone wants money in crypto, gift cards, wire transfers, or a payment app, talk to someone before you act and do not click on suspicious licks.
