Brookings man arrested after allegedly physically abusing 3-month-old child

A Brookings man has been arrested after allegedly physically abusing a 3-month-old baby. According to the Brookings police department 19-year-old Bailey D. Melchor allegedly physically abused his 3-month-old baby by reportedly throwing, striking, squeezing and choking the infant over a period of time. He faces abuse or cruelty to a minor under the age of seven charges, and aggravated battery of an infant, which are both felonies. The child is being treated for multiple fractures of the ribs along with a possible hemorrhage of the brain.
