A Brookings man died Thursday in a four-vehicle crash near Brookings, South Dakota.
Preliminary crash information indicates Ashley Leigh Harbin, the driver of a 2018 Subaru Forester, was traveling southbound on Interstate 29 near mile marker 140 in the northbound lanes. At the same time, Daten Briar Odom, the driver of a 2011 GMC Sierra, Devon Halpate, the driver of a 2024 Ford F-350, and Efrain Ramirez Martinez, the driver of a 2020 Chevrolet Trax, were traveling north in the northbound lanes at the same location. Harbin struck Odom’s GMC causing the Subaru to come to a stop in the roadway. The GMC rotated and struck Halpate’s Ford. Martinez struck the stopped Subaru. Odom sustained fatal injuries. Harbin was life flighted to a Sioux Falls hospital. Martinez, Halpate, and his passenger Benjamin Stang were not injured.
The investigation is ongoing. All information released is preliminary.
