The Brown County Commission Tuesday approved the 2026 provisional budget at its regular meeting Tuesday July 29th. A public hearing on the matter is scheduled for Tuesday September 2nd with final approval scheduled for Tuesday September 26th. The budget this fiscal year tops $56 million. That includes a general fund budget of $30.87 million and $15.94 million for the highway department. The budget proposal also includes a three percent raise for county employees, $740,000 for the new public defender’s office and $574,000 for court-appointed attorneys.
