Urban areas to drive job growth in South Dakota by 2032

South Dakota’s urban centers are expected to drive job growth through 2032 with rural areas falling behind and shrinking. According to Northern Plains News, the state’s Department of Labor and Regulations projects employment in the Sioux Falls metro area to reach 195,612 by 2032 or a 9.3 percent increase over a decade. The rapid City area is expected to grow by 7.6 percent or by 85,450 jobs. The rest of the state is projected to grow by 6.6 percent totaling 269,502 jobs by 2023. Sioux Falls state employment percentage is also expected to grow to 35.5 percent by 2032 while Rapid City will maintain at 15.5 percent and the rest of the state will shrink to 48.9 percent.
