The Brown County Commission at its regular meeting Tuesday set the first hearing date for a possible implementation of a half-cent gross receipt tax to help provide property tax relief. The first of two required public hearings will take place July 28th with a possible second reading and approval set for August 23rd. If the plan is successful the plan would be put before voters in a countywide vote. If voters approve the plan the half-cent tax increase would take effect January 1st 2027. This move was made possible by Senate Bill 96 which was passed this past legislative session and went into effect July 1sts.
