Congressman Johnson introduces bill to purchase back the Panama Canal

South Dakota congressman Dusty Johnson has introduced a bill to support President-elect Donald Trump’s desire to bring the Panama Canal back under US control. The bill would authorize the purchase of the canal back from the Panamanian Government. If this were to happen the amount of money would need to be negotiated by the two governments. The United States built the Panama Canal was completed in 1914 by the American government and was given back to Panama beginning in 1979. The Panamanian Government so far has shown no interest in selling the canal or allowing the United States to retake control.
