Early spring snow improves state’s drought outlook

(KWAT – Watertown, SD) Early spring snow across South Dakota last week has improved drought conditions.

The latest drought monitor map, released Thursday, shows all parts of the state remain in some level of drought conditions, but the percentage of the state that’s considered to be in severe or extreme drought dropped from almost nine-percent last week to less than three percent this week.

The driest areas of the state are in the southwest corner in Fall River, Oglala Lakota and Custer counties.
