Fifth inmate death in state penitentiary to be investigated by DCI

An inmate as found dead in his cell in the South Dakota State Penitentiary Friday. According to the Department of Corrections, 33-year-old Travis Long Fox was found unresponsive in his cell and was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital where he would pass away. The South Dakota Department of Criminal Investigation will be investigating the matter further. This is the fifth inmate death investigated by the DCI since February. Nineteen men have died in state prison custody this calendar year, the highest number in a decade. At least four men have committed suicide and three have been overdose released.
