Freeman Academy located in Freeman South Dakota has announced it will close its doors at the end of this school year after over a century in operation. According to the school board, the decision was made after the Freeman Junior College/Freeman Academy Corporation voted in a special meeting January 31st to close the school. Declining enrollment along with financial and operating challenges were cited as the reason for the closure. School board chair Brian Paff says the school is now working to find accommodations for students that live in the area as well as international students following its closing. Freeman Academy is a private christian school founded in 1901 as a junior college. The school is affiliated with the Mennonite Church.
