Legalizing online gambling could go before voters as lawmakers introduce resolution

Lawmakers in Pierre have entered a joint resolution seeking to put legalizing sports wagering on the ballot next general election. Senate Joint Resolution 504 was prime sponsored by senator Casey Crabtree of Madison and Representative Greg Jamison Sioux Falls and would allow voters to decide if they want sports wagering via mobile or electronic platforms to be legalized across the state. The bill has been referred to the Senate Taxation Committee. According to the language of the bill, 90 percent of the proceeds from sports wagering would be sued for property tax relief or to reduce property taxes in the state.
