Gov. Rhoden announces he will not debate runoff opponent Toby Doeden

South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden has announced he will not participate in a one-on-one debate against his gubernatorial runoff election opponent Aberdeen businessman Toby Doeden. In a statement released by the campaign to the Dakota Scout, Governor Rhoden says he has debated Toby Doeden three times and won’t be doing a fourth. Rhoden’s spokesperson Ian Fury accused Doeden of making quote outrageos, false claims and it takes more time to respond to the lies than it takes Toby to make them.” Doedn himself responded to Rhoden’s decision not to participate in a debate by saying someone unwilling to make themselves available to the press and people has no business holding an office as important as governor. The runoff election will be Tuesday July 28th. A runoff was triggered as no candidate reached the necessary 35 percent of the vote threshold to seal the nomination on election day.
