The Dakota Scout reports South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden is expected to formally announce his re-election campaign next week at a kickoff event in Rapid City. It has long been speculated Governor Rhoden would seek a second term, but until now it has not been official. Rhoden is a former state lawmaker who served as Lieutenant Governor for former Governor Kristi Noem. He was promoted to Governor when Noem accepted the position as Secretary of Homeland Security in the Trump Administration. According to recent released polling, Governor Rhoden is in a tight race with Representative Dusty Johnson for the GOP gubernatorial nomination. Johnson at 28 percent and Rhoden at 27 with Toby Doeden at 15, Jon Hansen 10 and 21 percent undecided.
