Law enforcement across South Dakota has come out showing support for South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden’s proposed plan to build a new men’s state prison. On Tuesday south Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley along with the South Dakota State Attorneys Association, the South Dakota Sheriff’s Association and the South Dakota Police Chiefs’ Association have all come out supporting the need for a new men’s state prison. The proposed plan by the Rhoden Administration would build a new 1,500 square foot facility at a site in Lincoln County costing the state approximately $600 million. The plan will be considered by the state legislature at a special session later this month.
