South Dakota Lieutenant Governor tony Venuizen has requested a special session of the legislature planned for July be postponed. Venihuzen made the request as he chairs Governor Larry Rhoden’s Project Prison Reset Task Force. Governor Rhoden had requested a special session be called in July to try and find a plan forward with the new proposed prison. However, in a statement Venihuzen said the task force does not feel two weeks provide adequate time to form a final proposal which would include necessary details for lawmakers to consider. The task force’s plan, which they voted unanimously to follow, called for a new state prison to be built at a site near Mitchell or Worthing costing no more than $600,000.
