{KXLG, Milbank, SD} It’s a dream many of us have had, but few have attempted, or even thought to attempt; being a contestant on Jeopardy. For one former Milbank man, that dream comes true Tuesday as he will make his debut on the long running trivia game show. The Fosheim family didn’t watch a lot of television at home so his first interaction with Jeopardy came about from his friend’s parents who always watched the show. While hanging out with his friend he would watch the show and again get the answers correct, which just boosted his love of trivia and knowledge of the world…
Fosheim says that watching games shows was one of his most enjoyed summer activities as a child, and he would watch up until the time he had to go to baseball. Jeopardy was his favorite, especially host Alex Trebek and the difficult trivia. As a fan of the show he never thought he would actually make it onto the show, but he tried, a number of times…
The second call was an invitation to come to the studio for a screen test, after which he was invited to be on the show. That was in 2025. Unfortunately, an emergency lead to him having to cancel that appearance, which he assumed was the end of his dream of being on the game show. However, Jeopardy invited him back to appear on a show this season…
Tuesday’s episode was filmed on August 15th. There were 13 people invited to compete including last year’s returning champion. People were randomly selected to compete against the champion and 5 shows were filmed per day. Fosheim was not allowed to reveal how he did in the competition and can remember very few of the categories that popped up as he says it goes so fast that it’s all a blur…
If the categories were science, law, healthcare of literature he felt pretty comfortable with his answers, so the trivia isn’t what’s actually most difficult about the game…
Other difficulties included getting a good night sleep before the program and not beating himself up when getting a question wrong. He says the program goes by very quickly and takes around 30 minutes to tape. Besides being on the show and fulfilling that dream, one of the highlights for Fosheim was meeting Ken Jennings…
Since graduating from Milbank High School, Fosheim attended college in Iowa, then moved to Atlanta to get his masters from Emory College and then worked at the CDC before getting a law degree and moving to Chicago. But despite not living in South Dakota since then, he remembered home when it came time for the Johnny Gilbert introduction…
Fosheim will make his Jeopardy debut on Tuesday’s episode. Area residents should be able to find it on KDLT where it is show twice a day, at 3:30 and 5pm.
