NBA board of governors approves record sale of the Boston Celtics

The NBA board of Governors Wednesday unanimously approved the sale of the Boston Celtics from its current ownership group to a group led by private equity mogul Bill Chisholm. The deal is valued at $6.1 billion. Upon closing the deal Chisholm will take over with 51 percent majority ownership with full control coming by 2028 which could bring the value of the deal to $7.3 billion according to ESPN. It is the largest private ever paid for an American Professional sports team. It beaks the previous record of $6.05 billion paid for the NFL’s Washington Commanders in 2023.
