North Dakota State University has officially announced the team is making the leap from FCS to FBS in football, joining the Mountain West Conference. The Mountain West includes the Air Force, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, San Jose State, UNLV, UTEP and Wyoming for football. NDSU athletic director Matt Larson talked about the decision…
Larson says this is a huge step, not just for NDSU and its community, but the state as a whole…
Bison head football coach Tim Polasek said this move was made possible by the work of former Bison players…
NDSU will spend $17.5 million on the move, $12/5 million in a conference entry free to the Mountain West and a $5 million fee to the NCAA for reclassification. NDSU will remain in the Summit League for all other sports other than football.
