The Brown County Sheriff’s Department responded to a reported paraglider accident northeast of Aberdeen Wednesday. According to a release from the department, sheriff deputies, the Frederick Fire Department, Aberdeen Medics, Careflight and the South Dakota highway patrol responded to the accident.
According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, Aberdeen mayor Travis Schaunaman was involved in the accident along with his 10-year-old and 8-year-old children. Schaunaman received serious, non-life threatening injuries while his 10-year-old received minor injuries and his 8-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred around 7:20 p.m. in rural Brown County, northwest of Westport and south of Willow Creek.
