(KCCR – Pierre,SD) One person has died after a vehicle went into the Missouri River near the Oahe Dam. The Hughes County Sheriff’s Office says anglers near the Oahe Dam powerhouse reported a vehicle entering the river around 7:15 am Monday morning. Responding agencies including South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, Highway Patrol, Pierre Fire and Police Departments and Pierre Fire Rescue Squad arrived at the scene and interviewed witnesses who helped responders determine where to begin searching for the vehicle. Game, Fish and Parks and Pierre Fire Rescue located the vehicle where a lone male occupant was removed. Life-saving measures were undertaken, but unsuccessful. Meanwhile a Pierre area responder on scene in the staging area experienced a serious medical emergency and was also provided life saving care before being transported for further evaluation and treatment. The name of the individual found in the vehicle is not being released pending notification of family. The condition of the first responder was not disclosed. American Medical Response, Central Divers and Black Hills Towing also responded to assist.
