Pierre man arrested for leaving the scene of an accident, DUI and more

A Pierre man is facing charges following a single vehicle accident Tuesday of this week. According to the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office, authorities were alerted to an individual walking away from the accident around 3:00 p.m. Tuesday. 31-year-old James R. Cowman of Pierre was located near the accident hiding in a grove of trees. He was taken into custody on charges including driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and obstructing law enforcement. He had to be taken to a local hospital for an evaluation before taken to the Hughes county jail.
